Quite possibly the most genius of inventions! A store bought cookie dough bar. The things you buy in preparation for a snowstorm.....

Phone Home

The time has come where I am spending some time picking up donations for MGA events and last week while in Paint Fire and Glaze I spotted this cell phone donation box. First, what a great idea! Second, remember the flip phone? I think I almost forgot it! So while you are purging, take your old phones to Paint Fire and Glaze in Overland Park! Sheffield Place is a great facility for single mothers in the inner city.

Wordless Wednesday

I could go without ever seeing these tennies again. 1984 called and wants their Reebok's back.
Er, currently on the clearance rack at DSW.

Fact of the Matter

On Sunday I posted an Instastory on my Instagram feed with a photo of the Native American Elder, Nathan Phillips and wrote how I couldn't stop thinking about him on MLK Eve and the irony of the kids heckling him.

On Monday, more videos surfaced showing what happened prior to the incident where another group was seen heckling the same kids who were then heckling the elder.  I watched the videos. I read the articles.

Monday afternoon, one of my Instagram followers sent me a direct message basically requesting that I read the full story, also stating it was a "fake" story, the kids were innocent bystanders and it was terrible journalism.  At first, I wanted to snap back a snide message because a teenage boy wearing a MAGA hat attending a March for Life Rally is not innocent.  That's an oxymoron. The kid just attended a rally focused on taking away women's rights.  However as I sat on it I decided instead to really lay out my thoughts in this post.

The original message I wanted to reply still resonates. Those kids were in DC to protest women's rights at the March for Life. Those kids were in DC with their private Catholic school. Many of those kids were wearing MAGA hats and clothing.  Regardless of what happened to those kids prior to them heckling and acting a fool in front of the Native Americans, they are representing a class, who yes in this day, I will call them out, often separate themselves with behavior.  It's called White Privilege.  That Catholic school is one of the exact things that is currently wrong in America.

I live in the suburbs of a city. I see it often. White privileged kids, going to said private school, supporting causes that restrict the rights of others, hence, March for Life, that their well to do families tell them to support.  I bet many of them have no clue that Planned Parenthood also provides well woman exams to low income women or that sometimes harboring a pregnancy could kill a person because of a condition.  Perhaps like this situation, many of those privilaged have the resources when they make mistakes which enable them to return to a world where they will never know the struggles of those with a different color of skin, those fighting for medical care or those battling to get food on their table every day.

I realize this post can be viewed as very divisive but I'm passionate about this and quite frankly I'm sick of it.  I stand by what I posted on my instastory- it is exactly as how it is viewed. White Privileged kids heckling those that they feel are beneath them.

I read a quote on Twitter later in the day and in fact retweeted it, "Imagine if Catholic schools made racism not abortion the centerpiece of their moral education."  I'll leave you with this, because I believe that statement.  I bet we could remedy a lot of this "White Privilege" if less time was spent focusing on causes that strip people from their basic human rights such as medical care and instead focus on how to help those who aren't as privileged.  Until then you will never Make America Great Again.

2 Ingredient Pumpkin Muffins

I ran across this recipe on Pinterest and ranks right up there with as simple as the Pudding Pie.  Supposedly these are Weight Watchers and just 90 calories a piece.  Mix 1 can of Pumpkin with 1 box of Spice Cake Mix and pour into a muffin tin.  Bake 20 minutes at 350 and here you go! They are so good!

Chicken and White Bean Enchiladas with Creamy Sauce

Every Skinnytaste recipe I have ever made I have loved and this one did not disappoint either! I did cheat a little on the sauce as I was still recovering from a treatment and wanted an easy way out when I made these. So delish!

PS. I can't figure out how to get Skinnytaste recipes without signing up for their emails. I pin a bunch of them on Pinterest and then have usually have to google to find the full recipe. Sorry, Skinnytaste!
