| This has been a hard hard week. I have not felt well. I have struggled, I have ached and just wanted to lay in my bed and rest. I have missed fun happy hours and rescheduled appointments. BUT there is much to look forward to including KICKOFF tomorrow! The heat has subsided and I am hopeful I have rested enough to be well. TGIF! |

Wordless Wednesday
Remember these? Was walking out of Target a few weeks ago and spotted them in amongst the baseball cards. I wonder if they still come with a stick of gum!

August
Oh August. where have you gone? This has been a great August! Several days at the Lake, pool time, lake time, sunshine, cattle time in NE, good friends, good food and apparently a few glasses of wine from the pictures! Trying to get back into the routine of work and the final days of summer. Very excited for football season! Still cringing at the thought of fatty Mark Mangino in ISU colors.....
Cheers!

Wordless Wednesday
Yesterday I saw a car that had a paw print magnet that said, "who rescued who?" I started laughing. She tries to wear the pants and be the boss, her hair gets EVERYWHERE ever thought of and this is what happens when she gets scolded. Love my oh precious one.

The First of August
August 1st. (Sigh.) If you follow my blog you know I hate August 1st. It's the day that my maternal grandparents and a high school friend were killed in car accidents five years apart. How ironic is that? I remember both of those days as if no time has passed. I remember what I was doing when each event happened, remember what I was wearing, remember who I was with, the sounds, the smells, the world stopping in time.
Time heals. Our lives have stretched, expanded and we have embraced the new, the change. I was thinking earlier this week on my views of August 1st and the pure dread as the day gets closer. I need to rethink my attitude on this date. Not as a day I hate, but rather a day to remember those near and dear to me and let them know how much they are appreciated. I know for sure what Ryan would want to be learned out of his death is for others to embrace each other and to live life to the fullest.
Sometimes I am torn on what Grandpa and Grandma McCreedy would want us to take from their death. My last memories of them are not so great, not happy memories. My Grandma was harsh with her words and let things loosely come out no matter how crude or crass they were regardless of who may remember them or be injured by their taste. After all, the last time I saw her, she said to me that I had too much food on my plate for dinner. Side note, I was 23 and an enormous 90lbs. Thanks Grandma. Those are the things I remember about her and how she interacted with us. If I can take anything from her life I guess I should learn to do a better job of tasting my words before I spit them out. My memories of my Grandpa were of his impatience and judgement of everybody else's life. If I can learn anything from him it shall be a reminder to take it all in, slow down, be patient and less judgmental.
I like to think that it was a blessing that Grandpa and Grandma died together, doing what they loved after such long and rich lives. I try to remind myself to think of happy times with them when they lived in Bella Vista, Arkansas when I was very young and we first go to step foot in Wal Mart or spend time playing Skip Bo with them. Grandpa would also push us on his homemade tire swing. I think it would do me good to go back and visit that place as it might help me recall them with love instead of the glare over a helping of mashed potatoes.
Everyday is a gift. Live it. Love it. Learn from it. I shall come back to this blog post next year and think about how I can take August 1st in stride. The week of August 1st also marks the anniversary of my move from Dallas to Kansas City. What a great choice and journey this has been for me. Perhaps next year August 1st shall be thought of as a new chapter on the journey and I can recall how I am using the memory of those near and dear to enrich my own life. TGIF!
