Yesterday was a day I had been waiting for for the past 8 years since moving to KC from Dallas. The opening of Nordstrom Rack. I did NOT go there however. Holding back. It's hard......
The seat of the new car has been baptized. With diet coke. Of course. Thank God for scotch guard.
I love that everyday things are turning PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Bob Hamilton Plumbing trucks, a city bus, and don't forget the Plaza Fountains will be PINK as of tomorrow!
Life happens when you are busy making plans.
I had to make a visit to the Hazardous Waste Dumping Center this week. I swear it must be like visiting a prison. You buzz at the gate and it slowly opens, closes behind you and you show your ID before disposing of your hazardous waste. I mean dropping off several old cans of paint is kind of criminal.
I hate the new Facebook. It's so confusing and I doubt the privacy features.
Apparently some of the neighbors think we live in the back 40. Last weekend some kids were riding a 4-wheeler up and down the street for hours. Hmmm. And on Sundays one particular neighbor likes to put the hood up on his 1984 Camaro and rev the engine for hours. I thought that was more popular in Eastern Jackson County but apparently not. It's a delightful sound. So delightful.
The McDonalds in Olathe, KS has a palm tree in their landscaping. I tried to get a tropical tree to grow in my yard. It didn't work out so well. I will be watching this palm tree to see if it really lives.
I posted this on facebook. It's a quite informative video about a lady in Kansas City with Myasthenia Gravis.
Nothing like stepping out of the shower to a spider on your bathmat.....
This is for my Dad- I have successfully made it a week without taking of a mirror of my car while pulling it in the garage! Can somebody please remind me why they made garages so small in 1950? They had station wagons back then. You can't tell me they fit in the size of garage I have!

Friday food for thought
This edition is a day late, for good reason as I spent most of yesterday having to buy a new car! The car salesman's last name was WINE believe it or not. That was my sign that the car was meant to be!
There is nothing quite like a home cooked meal. After several crazy busy weeks, I got to cook dinner TWICE this week.
Iowa State is 3-0 for the 1st time in 6 years and it feels SO good! Little afraid of the Longhorn revenge next weekend though.
I had to have a health screening this week for work. The lady weighed and measured me and told me I was 5'9. I immediately started giggling. Perhaps in my next life?! She then corrected herself and said 59 inches.
As annoying as Oprah could sometimes be, I kind of miss her show. Dr. Oz is just not the same.
I signed up for the Race for the Cure 10-22-11 in Des Moines to be a part of Sharon's Angels. Sharon is the mother of my dear friend Lindsay, fighting breast cancer. You can click here to check out the team or donate.
Let go and let God.
I may have said this before but people driving with little foo foo dogs on their laps are just as dangerous as people texting while driving. Seriously.
I love Fall.
You know you had a really great vacation when you find a wine cork stuck in your shoe a few days later!
I got a new pillow. It holds my neck in place at night so I can breathe. How sad that its come to this point but how GREAT that there is such an adaption to help me!
I love it when you are sitting in a waiting room waiting and almost every chair is empty and a person comes and sits down right next to you instead of sitting in any of the 50 free chairs in the room. Hello personal space!
This is my first Saturday at home in over 4 weeks. I didn't even sleep in because I am so excited to have a date with my couch and a little college football Saturday! Ok, or maybe I also woke up early to see if the new car was still in the garage! :)

Texas Treasure
When I moved from Dallas to KC in August 2003 I asked my Dad to do something special with my Texas license plates. After all they marked several milestones in my life. My first official move away from home, my first brand new car and the entrance into the REAL world.
When I moved to my house in 2007 they became my first yard decorations as tops to bird houses built by my Dad. Thanks Dad! I absolutely treasure them because each time I look at them I am reminded of such a transitional time in my life and the great lessons I learned from those years.
I'll have to move to some more states so Pa Foss can make some more birdhouses!

A daring friend wanted to find out of birds really lived in them and about got his forehead tatooed by an angry birdie!
Thelma and Louise 2011
I'm back! Late yesterday I returned from the Thelma and Louise 2011 Roadtrip! It was great! I accompanied my Kansas City Mama MA (Thelma) to her niece's wedding in North Carolina. It was 5 days of giggling, eating, drinking and seeing new sights!
Top 10 Memories of the Thelma and Louise 2011 Roadtrip
10. Iron Skillet- approaching a restaurant with artificial flowers in the pots outside= scary.
9. Rumba Restaurant in Nashville- YUM!
8. Instead of a Flat Stanley, MA found Flat Shannon in her suitcase.
7. Burger King Truck Stop
6. Little old man knitting in a gas station in Clarksville, TN
5. Wine Tasting at Lake James, NC
4. Trash white instead of white trash.
3. Body Lotion in the hair. Let's just say I was stressed when I was packing!
2. Horn happy Thelma
1. Driving through the Great Smokey Mountains. Had to about DRUG Thelma to get her through!
It was a great escape from work and life in KC! What a great trip! Looking forward to the next roadtrip and more adventures!

Look what they did NOW.......
Squirrels! They are a nuisance and my pretty flower pot has become the latest victim! They have dug in nearly ever pot I have and thus last week knocked a pot right off the railing! I keep telling Santa I need a BB Gun for the problem wildlife in my backyard. Here's your hint Santa- Allison still needs a BB Gun. :)

Friday food for thought is BACK (and on Sunday!)
I've been on a major hiatus with my Friday thoughts BUT after spending the last two weekends in the car I've had a lot of profound thinking time.
Thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones in 9/11.
Dear God, I'm sorry for all the cussing I did yesterday during the ISU-Iowa game. I will also need a prescription for Valium should we have anymore football games like that.
Yesterday I was returning something to TJ Maxx. I was putting the receipt back into my wallet when the lady behind me told the cashier she had an item to return without a reciept and she'd used it once. It was body wash. She went on to say she was returning it because it smelled bad. Um, wouldn't you smell the body wash before you purchased it?
I read this recently, "true friends are with you on the best days of your life and on the worst days of your life."
I went out with some college girl friends on Friday night in Des Moines. We ate at a restaurant where wines by the glass were $2.50/each. That was SUCH a bargain I almost wanted to drink 10 glasses.
A few weeks ago I checked out Friends Sushi with some dear friends. Um, delish and how great is it that their Monday night special is rolls for $3.99. I will be back!
I can no longer talk on the phone without wearing a headset because my fistula port has gotten so big and so painful. Insert BIG.SAD.FACE. If it takes me awhile to answer that it is because I am running to find my headset which often gets misplaced. I'm SO thankful for my headset.
How can you not love Paul Rhoads?
True story. Funny story. The bumper started to fall off my car on my trip to Iowa Friday. I thought I had a flat tire. Luckily, Mr. John Mills saved the day and it has been reattached.
It's a 3-day work week and then a 5-day Thelma and Louise roadtrip. Recall how much I LOVE roadtrips! Stay tuned for more to come!
I recently wrote this on Facebook- sometimes God brings people into your life to remind you how truly fortunate you are. It's so true.
I love pumpkin candles. Thanks Linds!
I have not been blogging about my mission to give back each month. Never fail I have given back in July and August- just did not write about it! July, I donated to 2 friends who were participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl A-Thon in KC and August to the MDA.
Ozark Adventures- I went to the Lake twice in August. Saw 3 snakes. 1 in the water and 2 on the ground. I was not a happy camper. Also drove through Tightwad, Missouri. Yes, not joking. They had the Tightwad Bar and the Tightwad Bank. Was laughing too hard to think of grabbing the camera.
You can do anything you set your mind to.
Have a great week! Cheers to being back in the blogworld!
