Creating Space

My mom loaned me a book last month called, "There's Not Enough Time." Ironically it was written by Jill Farmer, a childhood babysitter of mine and the daughter of my childhood pastor. I finished it last night and was thinking how applicable the book is to anybody in their 20s or 30s working, trying to be social, trying to be a member of their community, for some being parents. Actually, don't get me wrong,  it's applicable to any age group! It also brought me back to the sermon last week at church, creating space.

Being the first week in Lent Pastor Mike talked about so many people focus on fasting of different items for Lent and really its about creating space in your life, some sort of peace to take it all in.  Both the sermon and Jill's book had the same theme, we are generations of "busy" (I hate that word and I see I used it a few posts back, never again!) We are generations of always on gadgets and activity after activity. When was the last time you asked somebody how they were and instead of accepting, "ok" or "fine" for an answer you really found out how they were?  As I took in the words of the sermon last week I took in the words of Jill's book. There is enough time and you have to create space.  After all saying no to something opens the door for you to say yes to something else.

2013 has started off very hectic for me (not using the word busy, remember I hate that word) and I am vowing to create space and remember there is enough time to get things done. There is enough time to deal with all the issues created by Governor Sam Brownbeck and his overhaul of the Kansas Medicaid system to our most vulnerable population (thanks Sammy, you idiot!) and there is enough time for me to take a day of rest when I get a treatment this week, and there is enough time to get in 30 minutes of exercise each day and still get plenty of sleep and finally, there is enough time in 5 weeks to make this the best Greater Kansas City MGA Walk, Run and Roll that we have had! (A quick tally yesterday showed we were over $10,000 in fundraising! woo hoo!)

Enjoy your weekend! Create Space, enjoy the quiet and enjoy the chaos. You only live once!

3rd Annual MGA Walk, Run and Roll Update

We are inching closer and closer to the 3rd Annual Greater KC MGA Walk Run and Roll!  Participants and donations are still rolling in. We are taking sponsorships for about another month. In addition to if you register by 3/16 the cost is only $25, after 3/16 the cost goes to $30!

Once again this year we are partnering with Cy's Day of Service with the ISU Alumni Club of KC.  They have been selling raffle tickets at game watches for a signed Fred Hoiberg basketball or a Paul Rhoades football. You don't want to miss your change on possibly winning one of those!!

Still need to register or donation, click here.

As always thank you for your never ending support and love on this dream. It is so fun watching all the pieces of it come together!

Getting Crafty

I've done a few more crafty projects over the past couple of weekends. My friend Annie and I had a little Adult Girl Scout Night complete with wine and a card table for our crafts! Lots of laughs and lots of fun! Can't wait to do it again! I made a little wine cork trivet that evening. And this afternoon I made a fun little St. Paddy's day wreath! I got some scarves from Goodwill and ripped them up for the ribbon in addition to ripping up my white/silver dress pants that the zipper popped out last weekend! Cheers to a great weekend!

MIA

My mama mentioned to me I had been Blog MIA- why yes I have! It has been a hectic couple of weeks and I am having trouble keeping track of myself! There have been beer bottles dropped on feet- OUCH, (thankfully not broken), broken pant zippers while having to stand in front of the congregation at church, new jewelry in our family (congrats Jill & Jon!), followed by this girl getting stuck in the potential MOH dress, (oh dear),  wine tasting with 10 lovely friends @ Cellar Rat, securing and picking up MGA Run sponsorships and donations, doggies running away and eating entire boxes of treats while the dog sitter is out, doggies pooping big poops that have to be picked up on walks by the dog sitter (icky), decorative ladders attempted to be cut by tree clippers to fit in the house, (it doesn't work), seeing an old college friend that I haven't seen in 11 years, (so fun!) and later learning we are NOT in college anymore, new friends teaching us that putting sugar under your tongue takes care of hiccups (thanks Brooke!) new plumbing, new water heater and new washing machine all in one week (my excitement is written across my face after taken a hot shower and being able to put on clean clothes!)  At any rate, lots of good stories from the past few weeks and lots of fun fancy adventures to share. This is the good life! May you have a fantastic week and a lovely Valentines Day!
