Food Storage

I've been in my house just over 5 years and its starting to feel very small! I'm itching to move but need to get a few more years in here before I take the plunge on something new. That being said I've got to get very creative so everything fits! Sounds funny, I know, being that probably in 1950 when this joint was built 4-5 people seriously occupied it! Cupboards and cabinets are at a premium so last weekend my dad installed a window flower bed for some decorative veggie and fruit storage!
In my mud room, last spring we installed shower shelves to hold cans and jars which has helped make more room in the kitchen for pots, pans, etc!
Now if only I could figure out how to get some serious organization in the garage....

Friday Food for Thought

It's been so HOT that I think my creativity has melted!

The KC Star is relentless. They call every day and have been to ask about a subscription. You'd think they'd take a hint.

Mitt Romney probably shouldn't sing at events. I don't think that is necessary nor do people want to hear that. Kind of like my Dad singing at church. JUST KIDDING Dad!

Speaking of singing, saw James Taylor last weekend at Starlight with the Mama and Papa- so GOOD! Also my first visit to Starlight.

Another first last weekend, dining at Marina Grog and Galley at Lake Lotawana = YUM.

Not so YUM = LMS Wine Creators in Lee's Summit. The wine was much better when I visited there last Fall. This trip could not even finish a glass. And as most of you know that is way out of character for me!

Saw this on Pinterest, loved it. Keep Calm, give it up to God and carry on.

If I made my dinner reservations on OpenTable.com that means I probably don't need you to CALL me to confirm them. Duh.

Why is it the older we get the faster time flies?

I went to my first Bitch and Swap last week; a gathering of girls, drinks and things you don't want and you trade. So fun! Came home with some cute clothes too!

There are 4 Saturdays left before Game Day Saturday! You know that puts a smile on this face!

And 2 of those Saturdays and gonna be spent at the Lake. You know that puts a really BIG smile on this face!

After all the hard work of trying to keep the yard watered earlier this summer I decided last week to just let the stupid yard die. AF 0, drought 1!

Have a fantastic week and cheers to the weekend!

A Sign Just for Me?

This sign was posted on the window at Goodwill when I went on a recent thrift store adventure. Too bad I didn't find anything PINK because you know how much I love PINK and a good sale! You'd think at least one PINK thing would have been calling my name.....

Friday Food for Thought

I saw this week and it has resounded in me- "one of the hardest decisions you'll ever make it whether to walk away or try harder...."

I love that my mom refers to her favorite type of wine just as "Kim" as in Kim Crawford. One day she was talking about my dad had Kim in the car and I was thinking he had my uncle Kim in the car. I'm still giggling about that!

So now on the news they are talking about how you need to water your foundation because it is so dry. Um, hello, I can hardly keep up with watering the damn yard yet alone watering my foundation!

Topic of the week; Swiss bank accounts. How do you feel about presidential candidates having Swiss bank accounts?  I know how I feel!

It rained yesterday.  I've never been so happy to see rain. Too bad it lasted about 3 minutes.

I love looking at old pictures. As I was working on my July post I had the opportunity to go through lots of old pictures. So fun looking at them and seeing how things have changed through the years.

It pays to say how you feel about something.

My 85 year old neighbor had her bucket and hose out ready to hand wash her car. Now if that doesn't make me feel lazy!  I can't say I've ever hand washed my car.

I returned back to KC last weekend with a plastic mouse in my bag. Thanks Dad.  I see a plastic mouse in YOUR future....

You may have seen on facebook I posted I was carded last week. Well we can update that.. I got carded TWICE last night. I'll take that anyday.

I learned last night that one of my high school friends drowned. So very sad and doesn't even seem like it could be real. I say this a lot but life is a gift. Our time here is only borrowed.  So with that, cherish those around you and be real. Make amends and live in the moment. Have a good weekend!

 2 chopped tomatoes
grated cheddar to taste
1 can kidney beans,
hamburger prepared with taco seasoning

Also good to top with some Guac!

July

July reminds me of my Grandpa and Grandma Foss.  In fact I've had lots of memories of them lately.  I'm not sure if it was the two sisters sitting at the children's sermon in church wearing the matching sailor dresses or if it is just because the 4th of July is nearing and when Clint turned 14 he got some nice decorative patriotic blocks for his birthday from our sweet sweet Grandma.  Never mind that a 14 year old boy probably has no use for decorative holiday blocks from the Homestead House.

As a child I remember spending every 4th of July with them. I was the only grandchild without a summer birthday but don't you worry I wasn't left out as far as presents whether it was an outfit to match exactly what she gave Jill or a new beach towel. Other years that stand out are the year that Clint spent opening 50 presents from Grandma which were all clothes and all he wanted was probably some micro machines or transformers or the birthday when Karli turned 13 and she got a navy blue sailor dress. Such great memories! Grandpa and Grandma would have done anything for their lucky 4 grandkids!

Corn on the cob,  picking blackberries in the backyard to top over ice cream, swimming at the Country Club diving for money, watching fireworks from the 2nd tee, watching golf on TV; all things that remind me of such special time spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Sometimes I wonder what Grandma would be like today. Would we be able to convince her to stop feeding Maggie people food or turn off Fox News? Would she still refer to us as Minnie Mouse or me as Allie?  There is one thing for sure, no 4th of July passes without a smile on my face at realizing how lucky I was to have such doting Grandparents.

I couldn't find many pictures of the 4th of July with Grandpa and Grandma. I'm going to have to go through Mom's photo albums and check them out again.  Here are a few I found that I just crack up at!
Special Swim Time with Uncle Kim (far left), Allison, Dad and Clint

Grandma, the bathing beauty and dear lord, why didn't somebody pull up my swimsuit!

The 5th of July when our lives changed forever, welcome Clint!
May you make memories with your family and friends that put a smile on your face!  Have a wonderful 4th of July and holiday weekend!
