Burnt End Ice Cream

Did you shudder a bit at the title? I know, gross, right? I had been reading about the Burnt End Ice Cream at Betty Rae's all summer and after a happy hour at Louie's Wine Dive in Waldo, I suggested we try it. It was good, gross, awful, yummy, sweet, disgusting all in one spoonful. Yep, ice cream and BBQ. I highly recommend you taste test for yourself. What a weird combination.
*I should also share that I really don't like ice cream. That's where that sheet cake comes in!

Have you tried it? What did you think?

Wordless Wednesday

Don't you just love how the things you've searched on Amazon end up in your Instagram feed, Facebook feed, ads in your email? Unfortunately my recommended purchases on Amazon give away that I may have given or been searching for a few Dipshit Donnie gifts....... I hear the TP is amazing though.
For your Wednesday giggles.....

#sheetcakemovement

Unless you were living in a cave last Monday you know the Eclipse was the center of everybody's attention. I had plans to go to a farm North of the city to watch the Eclipse. Unfortunately, I awoke to a work emergency and was unable to partake. I was however, able to partake in the after party and got to get in on some sheet cake. You know I love a good sheet cake and even better that it comes on the premise of fighting hate. If you have not seen Tina Fey's sheet cake rant on Saturday Night Live- highly recommend- click here.

No Bake Caramel Cookies

As you know by now, my attempts at making actual cookies are real trainwrecks! I have become fond of the "no bake" version because they can look like trainwrecks!

You basically met a whole bunch of goodness together
(click link above for recipe)

spoon drop on wax paper, stick in the fridge

and there you have it!

These are a bit rich, but oh so good! They were great for snacking on at the Lake!

First Fridays, 2nd Edition

I do not take advantage of First Fridays in KC enough. Food trucks, art, music, everything local. What isn't there to love? When I got an invite for an art show by one of my local faves Tammy Smith Designs in August I knew I needed to venture out. After all, Ries is featured on one of her tea towels. Fortunately dogs were not welcome at this event so Ries did not get to see herself in the show.

Some sangria tasting at Tom's Town.

If you haven't done KC First Fridays, I highly recommend. Take an Uber, don't mess with parking, eat, drink, and enjoy! Also, don't forget to partake in the West Bottoms shopping the first weekend of the month! So many great things going on in KC!

Shoe Steal

If you've been reading my blog for awhile you know I am obsessed with monograms! Most of my monogram purchases I have found on Groupon.  There used to be The Monogram Store in Old Overland Park that I made a few purchases from but they had awful customer service. In fact, I think they closed.  Last winter I purchased a pair of monogrammed ballet flats from Living Social. After waiting months and thinking I had been dooped they finally came and I was in ❤.  But after said experience of waiting months and not getting any info on the tracking, I have since deleted my Living Social account, app, etc. I then learned of a local monogram outfitter, Jen Jen's Monograms.  I had been dying for a pair of red monogrammed ballet flats for Iowa State or maybe Chiefs games. Low and behold, Wal Mart sells the cheapest ballet flat in town- apparently they are $4.88 right now instead of $5.96 so go get yourself a pair! Then connect with Jen Jen and she'll monogram them for you. They come in a variety of colors, even demin.  They also come in wide or narrow. Whatever works for your foot.

Best Part- the total price! $15.96 for a personalized pair of shoes!
My Grandma Foss would be so proud!

Happy Food Co

What's that saying, curiosity killed the cat?
I often admired the Happy Food Co case at Hen House and seen their posts on Facebook. I finally decided to give it a try last weekend when I knew my mom and I would need a quick, fresh meal coming back from the Lake.

Their set up is pretty easy to navigate and very colorful. I opted to purchase the Green Garden Salad with Baked Chicken Tenders. After all, most know I am the chicken tender queen at 37 years old! 😅

The box was neatly organized and the directions super easy to read.   All packaging was/is recyclable which is nice to know. The best part is inadvertently we learned how to make these adorable little Parmesan crisps, which were part of the meal.

This particular recipe came with an entire package of chicken tenders, enough to feed me for several meals. Which we all know I don't like! I opted on freezing some.

Delish! A tad pricy but so nice to have the right amount of ingredients, a new meal idea and a quick dinner fix at your finger tips.  I will definitely try out Happy Food Co again!

Have you tried Happy Food Co? What do you recommend?

Thankful Thursday

Thankful for summer roadtrips home with dear friends who finally earn the love of Miss Thing who wants to lick them in the face instead of take a selfie!

Ugly July

The last part of July was a bit ugly and went something like this.

Had my veins blown out not once but twice at KU resulting in a delayed treatment for 1+ weeks while this bad boy healed.  The picture does not do it justice. Ouch. It has healed for the most part and I have had 2 treatments since.

Two days later, being awoken at 10:30pm (yes, usually in bed sound asleep by then) to a major crash and storm and once light the next day seeing the tornado that has come through the yard!

Tree through the fence

Not just any tree, a major tree
Although it narrowly misses the decorative wine bottle tree!

Unfortunately not a deck party gone wrong....

Coming to the realization that I need a flash light beyond my 2nd grade Girl Scout Camp flashlight since I was without power for 24+ hours.....

Luckily, I was able to snag a few friends who didn't have damage and get their help to get things cleaned up ASAP. Recall, I don't like chaos!

Missed work, all the fun of working with insurance, neighbors who don't seem too interested in what occurred, contractors and tree trimmers has been a real joy.  Luckily, the outcome was this.

Next up is redoing the little stone patio that also got crushed but my lovely insurance wouldn't cover to have re-done. And I might still be most upset about that as that stone patio I created myself, physically did all the work and then it was destroyed in the storm. Unfortunately, I don't have the physical strength with my MG right now to re lay all the stones. Hopeful for a Dad who says he can get it taken care of. But I may have cursed and screamed at my insurance for their refusal to help cover it. It's not right!!

So there you have it. Could have been so much worse. I'm thankful for my parents and friends for their support and closing the books on this mess!
