Ending the Weekend With a SMILE

or starting the week with a SMILE because
ISU beat #5 Kansas in Ames yesterday- there are few words to describe my delight seeing this bandwagon team go down.  When you live in a city full of Wichita State, JCCC and Emporia State Alums who think KU is all that and a bag of chips it gets a little old hearing about how fantastic they are day in and day out.  They often forget there ARE other teams in the league!   Yes, a naughty and bold little statement but oh so true if you ask the majority of those who have relocated to this city! *disclaimer- to my friends who actually WENT to KU, I apologize, I don't mean you- you are legit, you may cheer your hearts out and be ever so proud of your team! :)

AND

5 days of work seperate me and the BEACH! There are no words to describe the delight of knowing that fruity drinks, sand and palm trees are in my very near future!

Cheers!

More hometown love......

I was reading a copy of Oprah magazine this month and flipped to the back page and there she had written all about Fairfield, Iowa.  Check it out here.

New Artwork

I spotted this lovely painting in the home of our good family friend, Sally several months ago. Ironically the painting was done by my parents neighbor, Suzan Bates Kessel. I have several of Suzie's pieces and just love them.  Sally knew how much I loved this painting and had a print made for me. I went and got a frame last weekend and hung it in my dining room.
If you can't figure out what the painting symbolizes, it's a wine glass set in downtown Fairfield, Iowa- my hometown.

Friday Food for Thought

Most of my Friday Food for Thoughts are as you know thoughts during the week or things I observe, experience, etc.  I wish I had a better memory because when it comes to actually writing them I forget half of what I thought! Or I need a Dictaphone in my pocket to record when I think it!

It kills me that Newt Gingrich is a favorite among conservatives.

I pretty much love the weather this winter- spring jackets, no socks. I will cry the day it snows.

Anytime the presidential candidates are featured on SNL- it's a guaranteed belly laugh. Thanks SNL.

Is it wrong that I am almost packed for my vacation that is a little over a week away? I guess I am kind of excited.

Who buys their underwear at the Salvation Army?  They actually have a rack of undies. No joke.

Why does soup in the can always taste so bad. It never fails. The picture looks so inviting and then you open it and nuke it up and gross!

This week there was a groupon for tattoo removal.  I am not sure why but that made me laugh so hard.

I bought a can of PINK spray paint this week. Be warned.....

This week while watching the Bachelor I came to the conclusion. These girls are not normal. These girls are crazy. These girls are really crazy.  These girls are going to feel really really REALLY stupid when they air this show.  And please could Ben just cut his damn hair? Seriously.

Cheers to the weekend! And Kudos to my fearless co-workers and friends who are doing the Polar Bear Plunge tomorrow to benefit Special Olympics.

Oh yes, and Cyclones- make me proud tomorrow!

Friday Food for Thought

I am the proud new owner of my 5th car tire in 2 months. Insert big frown face here.

In the middle of this debacle I also lost one of my favorite earrings. Good thing they came from the $1 aisle at Target. But still. Insert second big frown face here.

Sometimes being kind means pushing the grocery cart back to the cart rack instead of leaving it in the middle of the parking lot.

My neighbor takes pride in rescuing dogs, which I think is pretty cool. It is NOT cool however that she has about 7 dogs chained up in her backyard and they bark all day long by my office window.  This is not animal haven.

Buy experiences not things.

Most people know one thing I really enjoy is going to quaint, local places. The newest find, Ciao Bella in Lee's Summit. Delish!

Apparently the ABC Family Channel really loves Julia Roberts, showcasing this week, Stepmom and Steal Magnolis.  Last week it was Pretty Woman. (see post below)

This morning I attempted to grocery shop at Price Chopper. That will be my last experience grocery shopping at Price Chopper. Such a dirty circus.  Can't stand that place.

3 months from today we'll be celebrating the 2nd Annual Greater Kansas City Myasthenia Gravis Walk, Run and Roll. It'll be here before we know it and that's pretty exciting!

2nd Annual Greater Kansas City Myasthenia Gravis Walk, Run and Roll Update

In the spare moments of my day I have been dedicating time to establishing sponsorships for our 2nd Annual Greater Kansas City Myasthenia Gravis Walk, Run and Roll.  Once again it has been a moving experience.  I have been reading a book about how to cope with having a chronic illness and actually I think raising awareness is how I myself cope.

As it stands today we have $3300 in sponsorships! It is with great appreciation that we thank; Ham's Pool Service, Adams Land and Cattle, Foss, Kuiken, Cochran, People's Bank, Tim and Lori Patterson, Casey's Auto Repair, and MD Electrodiagnosis. We have at least 10 other committed sponsors. With the assistance of my dear friend Leigh Marie, three grants have been written and we are anxiously crossing our fingers for the support and backing of some major local companies!

Our committee continues to meet on a regular basis to brainstorm, plan, organize and coordinate an even greater event this year. Our goal is to have 400 participants and to raise $35,000! I think we can do it! No, wait, I know we can do it! Online registration is already open if you are planning to participate. Just click here.

If you are unable to join us on April 21, 2012 at Heritage Park but want to contribute to a great cause please click here to donate online. Additionally as we continue to seek out sponsors, if you know of anybody, business owner or individual, who may be interested please contact me at fossallison@yahoo.com. Thank you again for your never-ending support of this little known about disease.  I believe in my heart that someday there will be a cure.

Friday Food for Thought

The days are long but the years are short.

On Monday night I faced one of the bigger dilemma's of 2012; to watch the Bachelor or the National Championship football game?

Also on Monday, bright and early as I grabbed my diet coke out of the coke box in the refrigerator (don't judge- I know you all are sitting there with your cups of coffee) out of the box fell a white little note telling me I was a sinner who had been saved by Jesus Christ.  I must say I was quite taken aback, a little freaked out and wondering how in the heck such a note got in my coca cola box. Perhaps they have a person on their assembly line trying to spread some spirituality?  Or as one of my friends mentioned maybe somebody is walking around in HyVee putting blessings in coke boxes?

I'm pretty sure my Friday the 13th was yesterday.

Why is it so exciting to open a new bottle of shampoo or body wash?

My friend Leigh Marie shared with me the sweetest thing this week. Her nearly 6 year old daughter got in the car after Kindergarten and asked her Mom if I was 18 years old. Leigh Marie cracked up and then asked why she wanted to know if Allison was over 18. Samantha proceeded to tell her that they had an assignment to write something about the kindest person they knew over 18 years old in Kansas City that was not family and she wanted to write about me. That my friends, melted my heart (and made me cry a little too!) That's what life's all about!

The day of the National Football Championship ranks as one of the most depressing days of the year. The end of college football for over 8 months.

If you haven't already, please like our facebook group for the Greater Kansas City Myasthenia Gravis Walk, Run and Roll. We are trying to publicize and generate interest for the run! Click here to like!

Sometimes you take 2 steps forward and then go 5 steps back and it is SOOOO frustrating! I don't understand why God does that to us other than to slap back to reality.

For those who know me I do not have the attention span for sitting through the movies or theatre. Don't ask why but my hands have to be busy or I get very bored. I went to a play this week at the New Theatre Dinner Restaurant and sat very still for 2.5 hours. Then it was all downhill!

Lovely Mr. Brownback in the state of Kansas is still trying to drastically change the lives of individuals with disabilities. Please take time to visit Invisible Kansans and voice your concern.

Aruba is quickly approaching and I seriously can't wait.

Bring on this three day weekend and a big to do list! TGIF!
